The journey of the show would feel something like this: Andre 3000 called Redman to tell him that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are doing an album with MgMt. Production by Danger Mouse. Redman could not keep that a secret so he hit up Diamond D and the Large Professor who were chilling with Tribe at the time. As Q-tip heard the news Marvin Gaye, Jelly Roll Morton and Bach looked down at these joining forces with approval. The spirit of those legends got the attention of Mick Jagger and Victor Wooten who were at Kanye West’s studio. Vic’s Reggae bass lines inspired Kanye. He promptly emailed The Rebirth Brass band who channeled Coltrane and they all started a parade.

Outkast: An Odyssey

When attempting to encompass the work or a group as dynamic as Outkast one must approach the task with care and respect. I spent the last year and a half composing this mixtape to demonstrate through art the level of respect I have for these two musicians.

Big Boi and Andre 3000 are clearly Hip Hop legends, however their musical influence stretches well beyond the boundaries of hip- hop. Their story is one of rappers who transformed themselves into true musicians. With complex rhyme styles, and sonically stunning production. Through internal reflection, and catering to nothing expect their creativity, OutKast has been able to transform themselves into global musical icons.

In my opinion they are the most talented musical duo alive. Each time they make an album it’s a step up musically and another look into who they are. Big Boi and Andre are able to make music that is not only relevant to the times, but it is also timeless. As the late great GURU put it, “The Rhyme style is elevated, the Style of beats is elevated” Over a 15 year period I have listened to and mentally examined the elevation of this masterful duo. This compilation consists of the Outkast songs that give me the emotional chills in my spine when I hear them. I hope that as you listen you can experience as I do the sonic beauty that is OUTKAST.

Hip Hop dreams from behind the veil

I have been delving deep into my vinyl recently trying to put new blends together. This is one I really like musically, but is more relevant to me this morning.

I was reading about how the media is demonizing Common and Michelle Obama for Common's invitation to recite poetry at the White House.

In short Common is a Hip Hop artist who I hold in the highest regard. He is a man of substance, who uses self reflection, and life experience to discuss the issues that press people of color as well as the those issues that effect us all.

I believe that he was a good choice for the event. Many in the media believe that the President and First Lady made a mistake by inviting him. If it was Maya Angelou, would that be ok? I love Maya Angelou and do not by any means undermine her contributions. On a personal level Common's music has touched me more, and forced me to look inside myself for personal growth more than Maya Angelou. I'm sure that as a 31 year old black man I am not alone in this.

What does this tell us about how people of color are still seen in America, especially the Hip Hop community. If Common, a positive rapper who's music is built around uplifting our world is vilified, what are our young people of color to think about themselves. We are still stuck behind the "VEIL" as Dubois would say. This veil gives

" a world which yields him no true self consciousness, but only lets him see himself through the revelation of the other world"

Yesterday was the anniversary of Biggies death. I was inspired by a sports center segment about SHAQ and BIGGIE. As soon as the segment was over I went into my Biggie archives and put this together. It is a short memorial to spark thoughts about who this man was and how is career as a rapper affected HiP HOp culture, as well as the perception of a BLACK MALE MISUNDERSTOOD!

Enjoy.

I have many projects close to completion. This is a small taste of my instant inspirations.

My daily life is built around listening to, researching, creating, and blending music. I would say I am officially obsessed with music and sound. I actually get depressed if I don't have my daily music fill. This mix is entitled DAY IN DAY OUT as it is a look into my daily routine. Not only musically but mentally and emotionally as well. As I go through out the day my soundtrack is similar to this. My intention is that the messages, beats, breaks, harmonies, and rhymes are relevant to your DAY IN DAY OUT on a personal level.

We all love the 80's. I feel the 80' in most cases are represented by 80's pop and new wave (WHich I love and this mix includes some of the tracks). However this mix includes tracks that were all released in the 1980's but are not necessarily the type of 80's songs you would expect. AVANT GARDE 80's with a laid back Weekend Feel
